Good Morning 2019!

“Human, You Just Need a Good Run”
2019 is tomorrow… I started my change-about a few weeks ago… why wait? It started when I got to Austin for Armadillo Christmas Bazaar and realized that I had forgotten my running shoes. Not that I have been running that much…. Ever since I started this art biz, I have been all in for that. I left my other love, running, behind. I mean, I have stayed in shape enough… but just barely. I decided to go buy some new shoes at the local Fleet Feet Austin\ running store just in case I felt like running during my two week stay for the show. While trying on new shoes, I had a really nice conversation about running and traveling with the guys there. When I got back to the hotel, I realized how good that felt… I in fact really miss that …my running “tribe”…one of those little ah-ha moments. So that very evening, I got online and rejoined Houston Area Road Runners Association, rejoined Bayou City Road Runners and signed myself up for the Chevron Houston Marathon (the half mara) thru the HARRA 500 program. I probably have no biz running 13 miles but I wanted a goal… goals are how I operate. Anyway, it’s funny how things happen… one kind conversation started an avalanche and has reignited a path I have loved for close to 35 years. I don’t intend to break any records but I do intend to find the time to reconnect with those that share this passion… and of course I will still be all in for art..but carving out a little time to do both sounds really good.

What have you been missing? Sometimes we move so fast, we ignore those moments that tell us exactly what we need. I’m lacing up for 2019 🙂 How about you?

When I was in college, I was captivated by a painting at a nearby art museum: “The River Seine at Chatou” by Andre Derain. I would go and sit in front of it every week. Something about the colors…It JUST made me feel good. No matter what my mood, when I looked at it, I smiled. When I left, I felt happy. My goal as an artist is to do for others what Derain did for me...to lighten a mood and bring a smile….a pretty top-knotch way to make a living in my book!
