As an artist, I had up until recently, never collaborated. But I had this idea for a show at our studios where we would all collaborate. And thanks to two of my studio mates at Winter Street, it became a reality. What I was not prepared for was how it would change my work and lead me down a new path. When you are working with another artist, you must think of your own art in a different light and scale. How can it be powerful and yet not overshadow your partner’s art? I worked with three other artists and had a wonderful experience with all of them. Above is a piece I did with Monica Melgar Art… her abstract background worked perfectly with the story I laid down on top of it… called “That Magic Moment”…it’s big… 36 x 72 inches. If you are in the Houston area, the “Come Together Collaborative Show” is on view through August both upstairs and downstairs at Winter Street Studios.
